Portable, lightweight, and efficient

Needed something portable for school and I found this. Have a 17" laptop at home, but it is too big and heavy to carry around. Initially I was going to buy a 13" 2-in-1 laptop, but ended up finding a surface pro 3 for a very good deal. The 2-in-1 feature was very appealing to me, because I enjoyed the idea of having a tablet/laptop hybrid, but ever since my purchase I’ve mainly used it as a laptop. It pretty much runs every desktop app that a normal computer can with no limitations. For example, I’m an EE major and downloaded LT Spice on my device, and it runs the same as on my laptop. I bought the surface pro 4 keyboard with it and always have it attached on, unless I’m watching a movie or something. The battery can last a long time. I keep my screen at 50% brightness while browsing the internet and watching youtube videos, and the battery can last 7+ hours. There’s also a battery saving mode that kicks in at low battery life, giving you an extra hour or so of web browsing and finishing up tasks. Even if you find yourself rapidly draining the battery, the charger is small and easy to carry around, and it recharges fast. Overall, it’s a good portable pc replacement that I would recommend to college students and productive people alike.

Extremely productive and utilitarian tablet/PC/laptop. It really does satisfy ALL my computing requirements and then some.

I now have had it for about 8 weeks… I am VERY happy and it is a great device. The price is a little expensive still but when compared to devices of the same caliber it is in fact cheaper and better quality than most.

I was worried about the many complaints about the fan noise… I am glad to report that the fan comes on rarely and when it does I can only hear it if there is absolutely no ambient noises at all… that is I can hear it when it comes on the rare occasion ONLY IF there is absolutely no background noise and the room is totally silent, and even then I have to listen very very carefully to actually hear it… not at all what I was expecting from the hyped up reports by some.

The screen is wonderful and the pen that comes with it adds a level of enjoyment that is just wonderful. I am not a good artist but with the pen capability I can produce artwork easily and quickly for almost all the graphics work I need. Of course taking notes and writing stuff by hand is just perfect.

The one 3.0 USB port makes it very easy to add a full USB keyboard and mouse for extensive usage as if it were a desktop and connecting it to a 21" flat screen makes this tablet become a great and powerful desktop with double monitors… just PROFESSIONAL!!!

However, being only one USB port is restrictive, but with a USB hub (e.g. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016UE239K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) you can plug in a mouse/keyboard and an external hard drive and/or Flash drive and/or external DVD player… which I did with no problems… you can also of course add a USB X-Box Joystick (e.g. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QRKWLA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) for when you want to play good games.

But in any case, the fact that it has a Bluetooth capability of course allows for connecting a myriad of Bluetooth devices like keyboards and game controller and headsets etc. etc.

The MicroSD slot allowed me to install an additional 128 GB of storage space which makes it so easy to backup data and to have all the storage I need.

The kickstand is just perfect and it really does allow the tablet to stand at any viewing angle for writing with the pen or for watching a movie or for working in any way.

I bought the type cover for it (this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FBL4EIQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and that is really a very very good addition. I LOVE the touchpad, big and wide and the glassy feel is great for the fingers and the ability to use as if it is a touch screen with the multi-touch capability makes it so easy to use the SP3 for real productivity. The backlighting makes it possible to type and work in dark areas like an airplane seat or when I want to work at night in a quite cozy room.

The speakers are great … quite loud… with other devices and even some laptops I never could hear the sound and have always needed to use external speakers. With the SP3 I find that I can watch a movie or listen to music and the sound is good enough and loud enough that I do not need any speakers.

And of course Windows 10 Pro is a real OS for real work and for real productivity… nothing comes even close.

With the SP3 I now can sell my desktop and laptop and other tablet… I will keep my Kindle and FireHDX for using in the sauna and hot spa.

This device is just perfect for work and play and productivity.

I am trying to think of Cons… I really cannot think of any… maybe the price could be A LITTLE cheaper … or … they could have included the type cover at the same price… but really being able to buy the type cover separately is in fact a plus since one can choose from among many options and alternatives available out there and not just from Microsoft.

In summary… this is a good value for money and a great device that satisfies ALLLL of the computing needs I need and some other things I never thought that I needed (e.g. drawing and graphics art work with the pen). So far I have not been disappointed in any way and I am quite happy on all levels.

I debated for months whether to just replace my HP desktop computer or buy a laptop or buy a surface pro 3. I finally went with the surface pro 3 with keyboard and docking station. I’ve been using it for about a month now and can honestly say it is an amazing piece of technology. It has easily replace my desktop computer. I have the docking station hooked to a 27 inch Samsung monitor which turns it into dual screens each independent of the other. I also bought a logitech wireless mouse and keyboard which has been awesome. I love how I can turn it from a powerful pc running 64bit windows 10 pro to a tablet. There is no other product like this. A lot of what I do is internet cloud based stuff. But I also run adobe photoshop, quicken and other hard drive based software on it as well. The solid state drive is really nice. From a cold start to using the computer takes about 15 seconds. I really like windows 10 pro. Light years better than 8 or 8.1. Bottom line is this pc/tablet has completely replaced my desktop computer and given me tons more flexibility in the process. I could not be happier.

Works better than expected for drawing

I had super low expectations getting this, as I’ve had terrible luck with windows before and generally hate the OS with a firey passion, but I actually kind of love this little thing. I’ve been drawing on it with Clip Studio Paint with no glitching or errors of any kind. It doesn’t have the accuracy of a cintiq/artisul/huion/etc, so if you do fine detail work like I do you’ll have to zoom into the art to get the pen precision you’d want. I got used to that in a couple of weeks (zooming and turning the canvas with your fingers is very cool). To compensate for the lack of physical hotkeys, I installed an customizable on-screen hotkey ap called "tablet pro", which makes drawing without the keyboard attached much easier. I would not have paid it’s original retail price, butfor~$600 it’s a fantastic little art pad.
