I have worked in IT for over 15 years and have seen my share of laptops. I have always been a fan of Dell systems so I pulled the trigger and ordered this system in the Core i5 / 8 GB RAM / 1 TB HD / Non-Touch variety. As always with Amazon, it arrived in two days via UPS. I promptly unpacked it and powered it up. I was greeted with the normal Windows 10 welcome screen and selected my time zone and other pertinent settings.
Personally, I chose customize and disabled all privacy related settings. This can also be done after the system is setup and is entirely up to the user. I was pleased to see that the latest Windows 10 Build 1511 was installed on this system which saved me quite some time. After the system finished the initial setup and asked me to login with a Microsoft Account, I chose to skip that and use a local account instead.
Once the desktop screen loaded I allowed a few moments for everything to get loaded properly on the system. I then clicked the Start menu and went into settings, chose Updates and Security and clicked Check for Updates. This is important to do upon initial boot to make sure you get all the latest updates. There was a batch of updates that installed and the system rebooted and I was all set!
The build quality of this system was very nice. I like the matte feel of the casing and the keyboard felt comfortable to type on. I read through some of the reviews on Amazon and was a little concerned with the feel of the keyboard, but overall I was impressed.
The system I purchased was well configured running an Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB of RAM and a 1 TB hard drive. Windows 10 has lots of optimization and performance enhancements so a configuration like this should run very well and it did.
The screen size at 15.6" was perfect for my needs, and touch was not necessary for me. Everyone's situation is different so purchase based on your needs, but I can tell you that the quality of this system is in line with the price point. This is a good price point to target when purchasing a new computer. Far too many people look at the cheaper $250-350 range and I can assure you that you will get what you pay for. This is a perfect blend of price and performance. Windows 10 has come a long way since release, particularly with it's latest build. Good luck with your next purchase!
The Dell Inspiron i5559 has been an overall good performer and met the expectations of the new user. This particular model did not have a touch screen and did not make any difference to the user. The overall performance with applications such as the MS Office suite and the MS Edge and Mozilla Firefox browsers has been very good. No slow downs in response have been noted while using applications or the Internet (using 5G wireless connection shared with six other devices). This laptop came with the 8GB RAM that can be upgraded to 16GB. The backlit keyboard is a great option and has been helpful during night and low light use.The other plus was the CD/DVD/RW drive which has been phased out in some of the newer laptop models. Great model for home use!
I truly enjoyed this computer for most of its life (only about 10 months). If you asked me two months ago I would have left a glowing review. However as of lately I am starting to experience some issues with functionality.I've had some freezing and random blackouts.I have babied this computer taking extremely good care of it from the moment I pulled it out of its box.I thought maybe a virus but after using scanners no issues turned up.I think I am still under warranty and plan to be sending this computer back, which is a huge inconvenience. Not happy about that but what can you do.
This computer was fine for a few months, but now I regularly have to remove the battery to reset the computer. I've had several instances where I am working on something, walk away to tend to something else, and cannot get the computer to wake up upon my return...sometimes less than 15 minutes later. Also, if I close the computer without first manually putting the computer to sleep, it does the same thing.I shouldn't have to remove the battery on a consistant basis to use my computer!

The products specs as shown were for 8GB RAM and 1 TB HDD, the product delivered had 4GB RAM and 300GB HDD.
Product is clearly used, which I expected, dropped on one corner too but again, I can live with that... but not being sold the wrong thing. I'm waiting to hear back from the customer service and will update as I see how they (hopefully) resolve the issue. Mistakes happen, lets see if they can make them right!
**Update! We have to pay for their shipping back to Portland, Oregan from Texas!

This laptop is fantastic. Usually an Apple guy when it comes to laptops, I wanted something affordable but still fast enough to run my code (I'm a software developer) and enough space to dual-boot Linux. Even though the processor is only an i5, It's still a very speedy machine and the 8GB of ram and 1TB hard drive mean I can use it for video games and office-y things on Windows 10 and boot into Xubuntu to do programming.
Bought this for our son as a replacement to his HP Beats laptop. He was so dissatisfied with the Beats laptop that we sold it and purchased this instead. He uses this laptop for gaming with his friends and has zero complaints.Thank you, Dell.
Undeniable performance Power player: Web pages, games and apps fire up fast with up to 6th Gen Intel Core processors thanks to premium performance and stunning visuals.

Great computer, it is the first laptop I have bought in my life and I'm really satisfied with my choice. It's just what I needed, it is very fast, and I love the touchscreen and the storage capacity. The backlit keyboard is very good as well. I have absolutely no complaints so far.
We bought this computer in August of 2016 and now we’re told that the visual display card is shot. This is just used a few times a week and now we’ve got to purchase a new one. Definitely not a Dell though. Thank god for my phone and computer at work!

What a piece of crap. Dell customer service is a nightmare, too. A month into the process of figuring out what is wrong with this computer and dealing with Dell and I'm still not done. The motherboard, optical drive, and battery were replaced. I was told I need to buy a new power supply, but given no instructions on how to do that. The computer is just back from repairs (took over 3 weeks) and it is slow as molasses. It is a nightmare and might be the worst purchasing decisionIi have ever made. Dell used to be a quality product. I will never buy from them again!
5.0 out of 5 starsAmazing deal on amazon - Warranty Issues

Here under is my previous review but today when I checked warranty, I found that I had received warranty for 9 Months only. When I asked seller, He said that you will have to extend warranty and 3 months from it will be paid by him. I am dissatisfied with the answer and response. Still seller is a nice and cooperative guy. Not a major issue but I want complete one year warranty.
OLD REVIEW I had purchased this laptop for bit lower price than the current price. Laptop is performing well. Seller is very cooperative. I have a little issue with its keys on keyboard as push is not convenient. I think, I might need some more time to get used to it. Overall great deal. Thanks Amazon & Thanks to the seller.

Overall it's ok. The mouse pad sucks as it lacks accuracy. The second down-side is that the inner surface of the laptop is a dust magnet. Due to it's rubbery feel, it is difficult to clean the dust with a simple wipe.

This is a refurbished product as told to me by dell support. The build quality is not so great but the cost is high when it comes to selling of refurbished products as brand new..
Update after 1 year:- I had already ordered for a replacement product and the seller entrusted that the product is new. So, since November 2016 I have already replaced power cord and now laptop is not functioning when goes on standby. I have to reinsert battery pack in order to make my system work.. Worst decision ever to buy laptop from cglobal.. "Thank you for delivering a wonderful product that exceeds expectation".

Got the 3543 non-touch with windows 8.1 i3,4GB, 500GBHHD
Before turning on I replaced the hard drive with a 512GB Transcend SSD and upgraded the memory to 8GB
Removed secure boot and disabled PXE in BIOS
UPDATE! The Card reader, MEI, and Wifi Driver on Dell support site was not the Windows7 version even though it stated it was. I was able to get the Windows7 versions of these drivers from the previous model support site (Inspiron 3542).
Pros Cheap i3 5th Gen Quiet Fan
Cons: Touchpad: Cannot select multiple items with the mouse it is annoying going to try to fix this. I do not have the right click issue like other reviews said. UPDATE!: Was able to fix this by uninstalling the dell touchpad drivers and using the previous Inspiron 3542 touchpad driver.
Wifi Signal seems to be lower than my other laptops. If it doesn't improve I'm going to swap this out the 1704 dell wifi with a intel dual band centrino card. UPDATE! I ended up installing the Centrino WiFi card, performance seems a bit better. Available through amazon, just search Intel 6300.
Single Channel Memory (only 1 slot for memory) This can slow down performance.
SD Card slot only allows the card to stick halfway in.. So when a SD card is inserted it sticks out about a half inch out of the side of the laptop. Might not be a con for some people.
Summary: I bought this for someone that just needed web browsing. Hopefully it lasts. The last Dell they had lasted for almost 10 years.
Very Good product at this price point. I bought this for my father who is a light user. The i3 runs all the basic tasks- Heavy Browsing, Light stock market applications etc. pretty well Considering it doesnt come with a SSD, Boot time is still pretty short and the current battery life is good at ~7-8 hrs.
Out of the box the product had a minor issue, which I was able to fix. This isn't expected in an out of box product as it ruins the overall user-experience. [One of the reason why people pay for costlier apple products]. I would just say poor quality control. Average user would just return the product or just live with it.
Issue: The laptop was packed well and on removing from the sleeve looked good. However on turning it ON, I saw bright spot towards the right side of the screen. All the pixels in the area were working working fine - Some people might have just lived with it. Having an OCD, I just contacted amazon for replacement. However the replacement wasn't reaching me in time and I needed to drop this off to my dad when I was visiting him. I googled about pressure marks and planned to try and fix it myself. I cancelled the return and amazon provided me compensation to get this fixed. [+1 to Amazon for this]
I opened up the display, and unscrewed the LCD from the top cover. What I saw was a - "small lose screw sitting behind the lcd screen". This was pressing against the back of the LCD screen causing the bright spot on the display. I believe a case of a lost screw while assembling the laptop - and there, I found it! Once removed, the bright spot was gone.
This is my first laptop since getting a Dell Studio 1500 series back in 2009, which due to the design flaws and my poor handling, crapped out on me way too soon. This computer is a 64bit Windows 8.1 operating system with 500 available GB as the description states. The look of the computer is nice but nothing luxurious, it is lightweight in my opinion and may feel cheap depending on what you are used to handling, no it does not feel like a Mac but it doesn't feel like it will fall apart at any given moment either.
As for the performance of the operating system itself, it is decent and gets the job done. As military personnel I have had some issues with IE and accessing AKO sites because IE freezes up and shuts down, which has been the most frustrating issue in and of itself, however, once I got Firefox it all ran smoothly. I plan on uninstalling some of the bloatware dell offers on their computers, but even before doing so this computer runs just fine and gets the job done. I would recommend it for someone who wants to access the internet, check email, write documents and just perform the typical computer tasks with. I have had my moments of where the computer may seem to freeze up when in all actuality it is just taking longer than I would prefer it to in order to accomplish whatever task I have told it to do, but it is nothing that is such a problem I could not live with it or that I would return this at all.
Design: Very angular, all-black, minimalist design with no frills or embellishments.Top cover is textured to prevent finger marks. Weight: Seems quite light, much lighter than my previous Dell. Noise: Disk drive is whisper-quiet.You have to put your ear very close to hear it. Screen: Brightness is just OK in normal light. Sound: Volume is just OK. Keyboard: OK Performance:I have the Core i3 and 4 GB RAM.This is just about OK for most normal uses (Word, Excel, YouTube, etc.)If you want lightening response, go with the Core i5 and more RAM. LEDs:Has only one, which will show white if the laptop is plugged in AND charging; will show red if the battery is low, plugged in or not.Downside to this is that, if the laptop is closed AND not plugged in, you don't know if it is sleeping or off. This takes some getting used to.Can't think why Dell would want to save a dollar or two by eliminating the usual LEDs. Price: Got it purchased and delivered for $402.Not bad.
Would I buy it again?Hard to tell, since I haven't done a hands-on test with half a dozen competitors in order to make a comparison.Overall, for the price I am satisfied; and Dell has always been reliable for me.
UPDATE: Found a way to improve the sound: Go to "Dell Audio" and adjust the equalizer.I boosted the higher-frequency sounds, and the overall sound seems twice as good.Pity this control is somewhat hidden.
